Since I wanted these to be as realistic as I could make them, I opted to
make toe brakes using the joystick buttons.
This was pretty much a simple door hinge (remember that sturdy thing???)
bolted to the plates for the actual pedals. I pretty much made
this part from scratch. The brackets that hold the microswitches
are screen door brackets found in the hardware isle in Home Depot.
Notice the springs at the top. They allow a return of the brake
when released. The real test of these for functionality is to
taxi a tail dragger in FlightSim. The differential braking is
quite interesting to get used to...
In keeping with an inexpensive theme, the wires to the switches are from
an old hard drive IDE cable.
